Du Preez won the women’s title in 5 hours 5 minutes and 53.5 seconds, with the silver and bronze medals going to the  pair of Lynette Burger (5:05.53.9) and Heidi Dalton (5:06.17.2).

“The PPC Kremetart Cycle Challenge is a race that I was really looking forward to having won the title last year, and it’s a great route, riding mostly into a bit of a head wind,” said du Preez afterwards.

In the closely contested elite women’s race, Burger held off du Preez in the sprint finish on the line at the end of the 53km first stage from Louis Trichardt to Waterpoort, with du Preez turning the tables to win the sprint over Burger at the end of the second leg from Waterpoort to Vivo.

In the men’s race, Willie Smit completed the distance in 4:23:32.9, with JC Nel (4:23.40.1) and Morne van Niekerk (4:24.45.9) finishing second and third respectively.
