Local artist is driven by passion

Some of his achievements in the industry include being featured on Floam FM for his single, Hulisa Vhone and a new single featured on Jozi FM.

Luky Mudau (27) known by his stage name DJ Lakado is pleading with residents to assist him update his music career by listening to his newly released Extended Play.

According to the Tshiawelo resident, his passion for music started back in 2005 when he used to be part of a dance group which specialised in Bujwa.

“My dad had a stereo tape and I was inspired by him, as well as the likes of the legendary Tlou Cleopas Monyepao known as DJ Cleo, Sibusiso Leope known and DJ Sbu as well as Oscar Mdlongwa known as Oskido. I also started listening to local radio stations and that is when I gained exposure and passion for music producing,” DJ Lakado said.

He added that this passion resulted in him enrolling with the Central Johannesburg TVET College for a diploma in sound engineering which he obtained in 2020.

“I saw that most of the artists I look up to in the music industry have qualifications.

“This is why I saw it necessary to up my skills and study music professionally so that I can upgrade my opportunities in the industry.”

DJ Lakado’s new extended play is a motivation for him to promote his music career and motivate himself to work harder as he navigates through the industry.

“My journey as an artist has not been easy and this is why I use music as one of my coping ways, I believe that through the love and support of my fellow residents my chances in succeeding in the industry will increase because for me, music is passion.”

Some of his achievements in the industry include being featured on Floam FM for his single, Hulisa Vhone and a new single featured on Jozi FM.

“I also have an underlying love for working with people even if they are not musicians but as music contract readers and business advisors. I have worked with the likes of DJ Ganyani from Ganyani Entertainment, African Papi, the Amapiano hit maker and I have also done a CD printing for DJ Davic from Masana Records.”

Although he carries this passion with him, just like other musicians out there, he still faces lack of funding and having to appear or perform at events without getting paid.

“The industry is not for the faint hearted, it needs one to be consistent and work even without getting paid because that is where most artists start.

“I am willing to work my way to the top and am pleading with residents to support me through bookings and streaming my music.”
