Joburg Zoo is an important tourist attraction in the city of Joburg which attracts local and international visitors.
Because of its convenient location, you can visit the Joburg Zoo and experience the wild right in the heart of the city. You don’t have to drive far to see wild animals, Joburg Zoo is right on your doorstep and boasts a collection of over 2700 animals and 320 species in its care – ranging from the Majestic Big 5, the colorful and exotic Animals of the Amazon, reptiles, birds and a fresh water aquarium.
The Joburg Zoo also offers tranquil gardens and lawns where families can have a picnic, playground equipment, a restaurant and food vendors. You need to bring the old and the young in your family and spend an exciting day in the great outdoors – in the middle of urban Joburg.

Festival of light – 26th November 2021 to 2nd January 2022
Joburg Theatre, in association with the City of Johannesburg’s entities; Joburg City Parks and Zoo and City Power, are excited to present the annual Joburg Festival of Lights featuring an enchanting collection of illuminated life-size animal characters and classical, harmonious entertainment, food and craft night market for visitors to the Joburg Zoo.
Open from 7pm – 10pm daily except Mondays.

Golf carts now available @Joburg Zoo
The Joburg Zoo is excited to be bringing the golf carts on board. This service will give visitors an opportunity to better explore the Joburg Zoo. This addition will also allow easier navigation on the 54-hectare facility that offers an array of activities.
Prices start from R150 per hour. Golf carts will be available from 9 December 2021. Â

Your generous donation helps to make the Johannesburg Zoo the best possible place for the animals to live, and for you to visit.
There are different kinds of adoption packages and what they contain depends on the adoption fee. Adoption packs include tickets to the Zoo, an adoption certificate and information about your animal.
