WATCH: TRC presents The Future Is Now: SADC Tour May 2018
In association with Concerts SA, the Tune Recreation Committee (TRC) present their first southern African music tour.
In association with Concerts SA, the Tune Recreation Committee (TRC) present their first southern African music tour entitled The Future Is Now. The band will present their debut album, Voices Of Our Vision, nominated in the Jazz category at the SAMA’s 2018.
In celebration of Africa Month, the Tune Recreation Committee is primed to make a grand offering in a series of workshops and concerts that will be shared in various countries in SADC region.
Over the course of three weeks, the Tune Recreation Committee will focus on the different venues with a strong emphasis on workshops contributing new works and collaborations to the tour, therefore, creating new and interesting work to be enjoyed by all those who will experience the energetic vitality to the audience.
This multi-faceted presentation in Swaziland, Mozambique and South Africa will focus on collaboration and musical exchange.
In each territory, the TRC would present works in various forms and guises with local musicians and artists accompanied by exhibitions and performances at every stop of the way.
The Future Is Now Tour: SADC Tour presents an amazing opportunity for the TRC to perform for a new ever-growing audience demographic in the region.

By bringing the best of what the TRC has to offer, The Future Is Now: SADC Tour is a springboard towards building and strengthening intercultural dialogue across southern Africa.
Alongside feature performances at key music venues in the region, the tour is accompanied by workshops. These wish to propagate a dialogue that is severely underrepresented in the musical landscape and the broader context of Southern Africa.
Specifically relating to several African music art forms within the realm of jazz and indigenous music, which share common traits in all regions.
After a tour launch show at The Chairman (Durban) on Freedom Day, Swaziland will be the first stop for performances at the Bahle Gallery and The Place.
From May 14 to the 16th, the Mondlane University in Maputo (Mozambique). Johannesburg will be treated to performances and workshops from May 17 to the 23rd of May at the Soweto Theatre and the University of Johannesburg’s Arts Centre.
The TRC features Clement Benny on drums, Nicholas Williams on bass, Reza Khota on guitar, Mandla Mlangeni on trumpet.

Multi-instrumentalist Mark Fransman will join as a special guest in selected Johannesburg performances on accordion, bass clarinet and tenor saxophone. The unit has performed to rousing applause at the 18th annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival.
Bandleader Mandla Mlangeni says about The Future Is Now: SADC Tour: “The focus of the endeavour is one that aims to build a documented heritage resource that challenges notions of colonial bias and seeks to expand a narrative of musicians, composers and artists through their own perspectives.
“Ours is an attempt to create a sustainable platform and network that for composers and musicians in a pairing of creative partnerships and collaborations with artists residing within the SADC region.”
Mandla Mlangeni says: “This TRC tour will focus on the different venues in the SADC with a strong emphasis on workshops contributing new works and collaborations. The Future Is Now is the canvas for our continual assimilation and interrogation of our diverse and colourful heritage.”
Tune Recreation Committee’s The Future Is Now: SADC Tour is supported by Concerts SA through the Music Mobility Fund, a funding mechanism which offers opportunities for South African musicians to undertake live music tours.
