‘I’m original with my music’

Keeping the music natural.

Most aspiring musicians have, more often than not, been inspired by an artist from their era and, in rare instances, you would be surprised to find that their inspiration comes from artists way before their time.

Clinton Meyer is a 19-year-old who grew fond of the music industry because of his older brother, Clayton Mayo. Meyer said, “My eldest brother is a musician and his name is Clayton ‘Clay’ Mayo. He’s a very versatile artist who does reggae, hip-hop, RnB and other genres.

“I think that he had an influence on my music because at age nine I started rapping. At the age of 14, I recorded my first song, titled TLN, and I’ve been into music since then.”

Meyer refers to himself as TLN, but what does that even mean? Well, no one could have said it better, he said, “I’m doing my thing for ten years now. I rap, produce and sing. The stage name TLN stands for The Last Natural. I named myself TLN because I feel that I’m original with my music. A lot of artists are not themselves in the music, they try to mimic other artists and that doesn’t work out.”

The young crooner is following in his brother’s footsteps of becoming a versatile musician and produces music in different genres. His producing preference is hip-hop, trap and RnB music. He produces music from his very own home studio and lives at the Hillbrow Flats on the Main Road in Eldorado Park.

During his career, he has worked with Reez and Marcus Matthews, DJ Sdumo and Ricco The Don- all artists who have stamped their mark on the local music scene in the community. He has also performed at a couple of places, so this is nothing new to him.

He said, “I’ve performed at the Side Venue and in Klerksdorp as well, courtesy of Rich Bass.”

He added, “I’ll be dropping an EP soon, hopefully by the end of April, titled The kid is amazing which will contain six tracks, three of which were produced by myself and the other three by other producers.”
