Kay Taylor talks to us about his hip hop career

Kaylin Jacobs was born on February 28, 1998. Jacobs is also known as Kay Taylor, a South African rapper, songwriter and record producer. He grew up in Johannesburg where he was raised by his grandparents.

His biological mother passed away when he was four-years-old and grew up alongside his little brother Cotlin Jacobs and did not have a steadfast relationship with his biological father.

He is well known for his debut single “There She Goes” featuring Sam Swerv and Spha and the remix single “Shut it”, Kay Taylor featuring Praiise and Sam Swerv.



He is the youngest recipient of the 2015 School Music Hip-Hop Awards, The Best Freshman Award including best single of Team Uber. The song known as Uber took two awards home and best single of the year 2015.

He started rapping at the age of nine and started producing his own beats at the age of 12. He eventually mastered the process of music production and began adding his vocals on the beats that he was making. He later signed to Gauteng-based artist management company blu_mi media house.

The stage name ‘Kay Taylor’ was given to him by a girl that fancied him very much. He looks up to fellow South African rappers such as AKA, Nasty C, Cassper Nyovest, and A-Recce. He said that he was motivated by their work ethic.


Kay Taylor is a real hit-man, shooting up on the beats.

His dream of meeting one of his major influences became a reality when he met Youngsta CPT. Kay Taylor highlights that performing alongside Youngsta CPT at a Gauteng festival was one of the best experiences of his life.

Kay Taylor released his first mixtape Bad Boy on February 26, 2017. His sophomore project titled W.H.N was released on April 14, 2015. Kay Taylor released his major single “There she goes” which later spawned a remix featuring Sam Swerv and Spha.

The song was produced by bezzybeats in-house producer M5 killer. He released the first single “Lover” off his debut album “Bad Boy” early 2017.
