“You don’t have to be tall to walk tall!”

I hated being tall until I knew that I was “wonderfully and fearfully made”.

A brand designed with a purpose to reach out and motivate the youth of Africa to Walk Tall no matter the situation! Tall Boy Wear which was started in 2013 by Bongani Tshabalala has come a long from just t-shirts to t-shirts, caps, hoodies, beanies and more.

“It started when I encountered my Maker The One who created me. Before the whole Tall Boy idea, I had a self-esteem problem and I hated being tall until I knew that I was “wonderfully and fearfully made” and I had to be tall to fulfill my purpose on earth.

“When my Creator revealed this to me in 2011, there was this birth of confidence within me and that was the beginning of Tall Boy and ever since then I being pushing confidence and encouraging the youth to be confident as well.



“Hence the brand slogan is Walk Tall! You don’t need to be tall to walk tall, walking tall is the confidence within you whether you short, big boned, dark or light skinned you can walk tall,” explained Tshabalala.

The brand has changed logos thrice in the five years but everything logo had a deeper meaning said Tshabalala.

“The vision has also grown bigger from selling clothing and now venturing into giving back to the needy on a regular bases and now planning on go to schools to do motivational speaking because the youths are the future leader of tomorrow and you’ll never know Tall Boy might spark the mind of an individual who will one day be the president of SA or someone who will be a CEO of a multi-million company,” said the founder.



The smiles on people’s faces when wearing the brand and the messages from others that encourage’s Tshabalala to keep going.

“Most of all the vision keeps me going I see this brand as a global brand, the biggest brand to come out of Africa. I never had the opportunity to future my studies because my parent couldn’t afford it but my parent gave me a good foundation, good morals standards, and good principles to stand on, so It is my desire one day to be able to build schools and give bursary to those who a less fortunate and to those who have dreams that seem crazy but realistic to those carrying the dream,” he added.

In the next five years, Tshabalala would like to be owning three stores in various provinces. He also sees the brand selling throughout the African continent.

“And if God allows for us to go global as well,” he said.

The fashion and graphic designer would also like to have an annual back to school campaign to raise funds for those who can’t afford to go to school. The Tall Boy Wear is more than a brand, it’s a vision and a movement.
