Serenading his way to the RnB world

"I want to be the best performer South Africa has ever seen."

Thabo Wayne Tsereme who goes by the stage name ‘Serenade’ aims to break into the RnB music genre in order to renew the style and win people’s heart.

According to Tsereme, he chose the name serenade in order to accompany the music he makes.

“Serenade isn’t an alter ego, merely an extension of my personality. I want the name to represent good music in all good vibes. I want people of all ages to be able to enjoy my music,” said Tsereme.

Tsereme said that he writes music from observing as opposed to personal incidents and that it is Serenade who brings them to life with harmonies and melodies.

“The arts have always been a passion of mine. I hail from a family of musicians but unfortunately, none have dared, yet to pursue the arts full time as a career.”

Tsereme has worked on a couple of projects under an underground label called ‘Andy’s production’ based in Pimville and he is currently working on a studio project while using live performances as a tool to broaden his fan base.

“One of my long-term goals is to break into the RnB scene which is currently regarded as dormant and very tricky.”

Influenced by notable western musicians such as the O-Jays, Jimmy Swaggard, John Legend, R.Kelly, Anthony Hamilton to name a few, it’s no surprise that Serenades genre is RnB/Soul a genre he defines as a ‘sit down and listen’ type of vibe but also having a lot of dance-friendly element.

Among his notable performances and achievements, Tsereme made the top 10 of the first-ever trace stars competition, reached the top 4 of the Sing-Off SA as part of Question Mark, was part of team Shugasmax in season 2 of ‘Clash of the choirs’ and made it to the top 3.

“I want to be the best performer South Africa has ever seen and to transcend the mindset of the youth as far as their ideas of dreams are concerned.”
