Mkeys is not just your average DJ

MKeys, is a multi-talented DJ, producer and instrumentalist.

Born on February 25, 1992, Themba Mavuso, known to his fans as MKeys, is a multi-talented DJ/producer/instrumentalist and founder of record label MKeys Records, hailing from Mofolo, Soweto.

His career which started as a hobby in 2001, influenced by his uncle, has managed to win him a few local DJ competitions ,including Sounds of Sounds DJ Competition, got up to Top 3 of Red Square DJ Knockout Challenge (2015 Soweto edition) and Top 20 of SABC’s 2016 edition of 1’s and 2’s South African national DJ competition.

The love for music grew so rapidly and saw MKeys move into music production in 2007. Having enrolled and studied with The Campus of Performing Arts, MKeys proudly graduated in Performance (majoring in piano) in 2014.

In the same year that he graduated from COPA SA, MKeys had his debut EPs “The Family & Friends” and “Outbreak The Transition” released under Sophisticado Recordings.

His capabilities have afforded him the privilege to stage not only as a solo artist but also as a keyboardist on Asali’s “Crossroad” album launch in 2016, KentPhonik & Friends reunion vibe in 2014 and as a member of 3 groups: MellowRoots, Black Orchids and TappedSole.

MKeys now boasts his biweekly offerings dubbed #MKeysRedWallFridays, where he does cover versions to globally celebrated singles.

Under his belt to date, he has worked with Boitumelo Morobane (2016 Season10 IdolsSA Top16 finalist) on Jhene Aiko’s The Worst and a solo vocoder-influenced retake of “Cherish The Day”, originally performed by Robert Glasper and Lalah Hathaway.
