Eldos: Celebrating Youth Day with Touch-A-Life (videos included)

Touch-A-Life hosted a free June 16 concert for the community of Eldorado Park, boasting a line-up of local South African talent.

Youth Month – the community of Eldorado Park joined the rest of the country in commemorating the 41st anniversary of 1976, Soweto Uprising.

The Touch-A-Life foundation hosted a free Youth Day concert at the Eldorado Park Athletics Stadium to celebrate the legacy of Youth Day and unite the community through music and dance.

The event was filled with a line-up of local talent and industry favourites, including the likes of Just Robyn, Earl B, Henry Philemon, the Maestro Reggae Band and The Philemon Family Band.

Young and old joined in on the festivities of the day as many spent their afternoon in front of the stage, trying to catch a glimpse of their favourite performers while grooving along to the eclectic music.

“It’s about the youth and Eldorado Park. We’re trying to bring back what used to be, music and sports,” said Touch-A-Life event organiser, Giovanni Mattera.

The event had a few giveaway prizes in store for willing dance and singing competition contestants and food parcels were freely distributed to attendees at the end of the concert.

The youth of the community came out in their numbers to enjoy the event and celebrate Youth Day.

“I feel like children are the most important asset to our future. For me, Youth Day is about celebrating our future and reminding everybody that our children are going to be the next generation, doing the next big thing.

“I like to look at it in a positive light as opposed to just thinking about where it stems from,” said music performer, Just Robyn.

She felt honoured to be a part of the Youth Day event, “My music is for the youth, so I feel like I’m meant to be here,” she said.

“It was a day for the whole family and the community showed their unity in support of Youth Day.“ The event brings us together as a community,” said Mattera.
