Darling was enthused to announce the launch of its new African Sunset Ombre range during the month of the Soweto Fashion Week (SFW) at the Soweto Theatre.
On its fifth year, the platform for the Autumn/Winter range ran from May 24 to May 28 at the theatre where aspiring fashion moguls gathered for the epic show that is on its way to reaching global standards if it hasn’t reached them yet.
According to Darling’s Senior Brand Manager, Pearle Peane, “The range is inspired by the colours of the African sunset and seeks to make African women embrace, appreciate and celebrate being African.”
Darling is in its fifth year of partnership with the Soweto Fashion Week, and the gifted Darling stylists used hair extensions from the collection to style models walking the bright runway.
They incorporated unique, avant-garde hairstyles with their African Sunset Ombre hair range to be suitable for the designers’ collections.
The hairstyles paid homage to African hairstyles from vintage to modern times — from the intricate braided styles worn in the 1500s, the big Afros of the 1960s to the contemporary styles borrowed from the past and coupled with today’s creative flair.
According to Nonkululeko Mahlangu of Ogilvy Public Relations, “Currently, the world is drawing inspiration from Africa to express themselves, whether in beauty, art, or fashion, it all ties to women coming together.”
The African Sunset Ombre collection together with the #DarlingLovesAfrica campaign will be a stand for the stylists to get the ability to create hairstyles that are trending across the globe.
Darling also showcased weaves in various colours, from solid purples and blues to Ombres and blends as well as natural hair extensions that comprise of big Afros in all curl patterns.
The braid range includes faux locks and vintage styles inspired by different cultures of the Africa diaspora.
Mahlangu said, “Whether you are a vivacious braid lover or a graceful woman in love with curls, there is something for you in this collection. Darling seeks to inspire and empower every black woman in her everyday moments that make up her life’s journey.”
