Ndofaya: Dance crew burn the floor for a pig prize

HVP dance competition shines a spotlight on local talent as dance crews battle it out for top honours.

The heat was on this past weekend as dancers took centre stage for a big prize and a good cause at the Club 10 Hip Hop vs Pansula (HVP) Dance Competition grand finale.

The battle ground was Sedibeng Pub & Restaurant in Ndofaya and fun seekers came out to play and watch dancers burn the floor.

When the dust settled at the morning after, Via Vandal from Alexandra had been crowned kings of dance.

Limpopo Boys dance crew took the second position even though they proved to be crowd favourites from the moment they walked on stage for the first round.

While the overall battle was won by pansulas, Hip Hop crews brought the heat and had the crowd going crazy.

At stake was a whopping R40 000 cash prize and 10 000 for the first and second place winners respectively.

A charity organisation chosen by the winners is set to benefit from the competition as well. The inaugural HVP dance competition is an initiative of CLUB 10 and it is aimed at reviving the culture of dance in this province and across the country.

The response, however, was beyond expectation for the organisers and sponsors of the competition as it drawered dance crews from as far as Botswana.

Dance crews from as far as Kenya showed an interest in participating in the competition according to the organiser Kenna Mahlangu from KAN Communications.

Via Vandal dance crew was crowned kings of dance.

“We have a lot of key learnings that we take from this event as it was the first one. In terms of talent, I think we managed to achieve what we wanted.

“All the dance crews really brought the heat on. They didn’t repeat styles and they did everything according to the brief while keeping the crowd entertained throughout,” said Mahlangu.

While the crowd was entertained throughout the event, the people who were not so much entertained were the judges who were tasked with a difficult job of finding the winners.

Seasoned dancers and choreographers Vukani Khoza, Lorcia Cooper Delta the Leo and Sicelo Xaba made up the panel of judges.

Making his final remarks before announcing then winners Khoza said, “Limpopo boys really entertained us. They made us laugh and everything but at the end of the day, this was a dance competition. As the judges, we felt that Via Vandal should be the winners of this competition.”

HVP dance competition was fire even from the day of the auditions which saw more than a hundred dance crews come out to try their luck.

The response from dance crews and dance lovers have proven beyond reasonable doubts that the second edition of HVP will take over the whole SADC Region.

“Shootout to Elain Bodha from Club 10 and all our sponsors who made the competition a success. All the crews that participated have contributed to the revival of the culture of dance and I have no doubts that next year, HVP will be massive,” said Mahlangu.

Ntombee Mzolo did a sterling job as programme director while local DJs had everyone revellers lose their morals on the dance floor all night.
