WATCH: FWC Training and Development Centre Graduates pull out all the stops for their 1st Semester Competition

Chef, Baking and Events and Decor students all competed for the Top 2 spots in their end-of-semester cooking and decor competition.

On May 27, the FWC (Family Worship Centre) Training and Development Centre presented its first semester, Chef, Baking and Events and Décor competition.

The annual contest was held between the Training and Development Centre’s Chef, Baking and Events and Décor course graduates.

The day highlighted the skills of the graduates as the competition celebrated and evaluated the progress, hard work and success of each participant.

The competition was made up of 5 teams, each consisting of Chef, Baking and Events and Décor graduates who had successfully completed their courses.

Each team had to align their group with a specific chosen theme. The Training and Development Centre was a hub of culture as French, Indian, Sotho, Tswana and Zulu themed teams all came together to share in the day and compete for the top two spots.

The competition tasked each team with creating and presenting a three-course meal, consisting of a starter, main meal, and dessert.

The competing teams also had to design and decorate a table, which put the skills and creativity of the Events and Decor students to the test.

The teams were allocated and provided with a budget of R200 each.

The challenge of the competition laid not only in the creativity and technicality of the tasks but also in their financial management.

It was a buzz of anticipation and excitement as teams spent the morning decorating and prepping their spaces, finalising the minute details of their décor while setting their food.

The judging panel, comprised of the six lecturers and facilitators working at the FWC T&D Centre, including Charles De Kock, Chef and Baking course facilitator and lecturer.

He was grateful to see the progress and work of the competing students, “That’s why we are actually here. To give them the skills for them to go and implement and for us to see if they have implemented it and how they have implemented it.”

Each team was judged on their food and décor. In the end, the French team took the day, with their pink and black extravaganza, while the Indian team took second place.

Students were overjoyed with the results.

The competition winners were awarded their medals and everyone received their graduate certificate and medal.

De Kock and all the facilitators were amazed by the talent of the students and expressed their pride for what they had all presented and accomplished, reminding them that everyone was a winner.

“You can only grow from strength to strength,” said De Kock. “To all of you, remember it doesn’t end here. You can only go forward. Go out there and make something,” said Charles.

The competitors rejoiced in a successful and fun-filled day, leaving with a positive attitude.
