‘The System’ is a five-person play following three men after their escape from prison as they desperately try to avoid capture while agonizing over how to clear their names.

It flashes on events leading to the men’s daring escape from prison following their unusual dramatic and unconnected incarcerations, their subsequent escape and their journey thereafter.

The play is a reflection of contemporary stories of the present day section of South Africa.

This is physical expression theatre offering thought-provoking insight into poverty, crime-riddled communities, injustice, compassionate, betrayal, friendship and values in modern day South Africa.

Both Thekwana and Motswiri are excited to bring back the production at a stage where it gained momentum to grow to where it is today.

The journey of The System started at Gauteng Ishashalaza Theatre Festival, where it was nominated in six categories, scooping Best Director and Best Writers awards.

It went on to be part of Festival of Fame at the National Arts School and Mzansi Fela Festival 2013 at The South African State Theatre.

The following year it participated in Zimbabwe’s Ibumba International Festival and the Intwasa International Festival in 2016. The production received the Standard Bank Ovation Award for achieving excellence in the 2015 National Arts Festival.
