The Theatre in Westbury brings ‘The Crossroad’ to stage

The Theatre in Westbury hosted their show called “The Crossroad”.

The Theatre in Westbury hosted their show called “The Crossroad” at the Westbury Recreation Centre and below the cast explains their understanding of the play.

The MC of the production was Dick Solomons and other artists that performed on the stage was local comedians Vaughan Solomons, Elvonzo Burger, Valentino Snyders and Mohammed Kamish who sang two songs before the production.

“The crossroad is basically about a group of people that are just living their own lives according to the way they feel they need to live their lives.

“Some want to follow the ways of God and some want to follow the ways of the world and eventually at some stage they all come to a crossroad where they need to decide if the life were living currently is it fit for them, is it the life that they need to live” said Joel Motlhaleemang, who plays the role of Matthew,  a father who has lost his wife during birth, she gives birth to a baby girl but he is resentful towards the daughter and God because of his loss.

The production had the scenes that included issues in the community such as alcoholism, blessers, blessees, parents who are against their children serving in the ministry, the recent shootings that are taking place in the community, abuse, cheating on a spouse, to name a few elements.

According to Justin Smit who plays the character, Samuel explains the theatre means change and a place where the youth can showcase their talent, he said that people only see the youth at bashes and that they are shown in a bad light, therefore, they using the production as a platform to show Westbury in a positive light.

“I’m Jessie in the play, a young girl who just finished school, my mother, she’s a godly woman so I got saved just to please her and now I’m running the youth in the play but I don’t really want to be there, but I’m doing it because my mother is a deacon in church, I have this boyfriend that is like totally from another world so I want to be with him and I want to be with God.

“I’m literally lukewarm and then, in the end, I need to choose whether I’m going to be with God or be with him” explains Lameez Jacobs who plays the role of Jesse.

Alicia Lawrence, said “I joined recently and you know we go through challenges and on the stage we tend to embrace ourselves and the theatre just brings out a lot of characters out of us that we can’t imagine us being so it helps us develop who we are and get to know the issues in the community.”

The entire cast for The Crossroad play was Justin Smit, Joel Motlhaleemang, Lameez Jacobs, Emogene Gouws, Alicia Lawrence, Warren Osborne, Stephen Williams, Carlon Barkley, Austin Andrews and Tyronique Barkley.
