YKS is chasing paper and big dreams

Local upcoming rapper makes music that comforts souls.

Sizwe Thalente Buthelezi is a young man who is proving that a person can live up to his name. When his parents named him Thalente, little did they know that their son would display a remarkable amount of talent in sport and music.

Currently known by his stage name YKS, Buthelezi is currently blazing the hip-hop underground scene.

“I was just a talented kid from primary school. I was very good at sports but I’ve always had the love for music so I decided to pick up the pen and started writing music,” he says.

The type of music YKS is writing is called trap soul. It is not your normal trap music which is upbeat and aimed at making the listener dance.

He describes trap soul thus, “It is not the type of music that will only make you dance but it also talks about love and challenges that people face in life. I can call myself a conscious but happy rapper.”

The 20-year-old artist from Orlando West is on a mission to revive souls with his music which talks about love, money, and life in general. It all started back in primary school when the music bug bit him.

His friend from school Thato Molimane recognised the talent and signed him to his record label and since then, they haven’t looked back.

A few years later, YKS has dropped a smash hit single titled ‘Paper Chase’ which is currently on high rotation on local radio stations.

The song talks about money which is what YKS is intending to do with his music even though it talks to the soul.

“The youth can relate to my music because it talks about everything that affects them. Paperchase talks about the investment I’m making in this rap game and eventually getting something out of it at the end of the day,” says YKS.

The song was produced by Abza whose contribution to the rap game is unquestionable as he has also worked with Casper according to YKS.

It all depends on the hunger that one has in this game. If you are hungry enough like YKS, you are destined for great things and stardom.

His second single is called ‘Money Calling’ and it is together with the going to be available on iTunes, putting the young rapper a step closer to stardom.

In addition to ditching bars which are solid like orphanage walls, fans can expect a mixtape to drop in a few months time.
