Three5Crew has some swag and serious bars

Local hip hop group is here to affect the industry with their unique sound.

A new era in the local music scene has dawned with the arrival of Three5Crew, a Hip Hop group made of three exceptionally talented youngsters.

To call Three5Crew a Hip Hop group is an understatement due to the fact that they have avoided putting themselves and their craft in a box.

World music is a more appropriate name to describe the type of genre Three5Crew is doing. Three5Crew is a true example of what happens when three creative minds from three different worlds collide.

Malusi “Kenzo” Jalubani, Ntwezinhle “Zinto” Gina and Lindani “Lindrox” Makhaye.

Malusi “Kenzo” Jalubani, Ntwezinhle “Zinto” Gina and Lindani “Lindrox” Makhaye are a special combination that makes up Three5Crew.

Take local and international Hip Hop fuse it with R&B and Pop and add a bit of Kwaito and dance music and there you have it, Three5Crew.

“We are experimenting with different sounds but the focus is on the youth market,” says Kenzo who comes through with some serious bars in their R&B Hip Hop track titled call me.

The view that the group is not to be boxed in one genre is supported by Lindrox who say the mission is to make music that can be enjoyed by music lovers across the world.

Creativity is the key to making music that can be enjoyed across all continents and Three5Crew is not short of it.

Creativity drips even from the name of the group which is taken from the township slang term “3-5”, which refers to All Star sneakers.

The name also carries a connotation for street cred and versatility that is embedded within the music the guys do.

It all started a few years ago when all crew members were still in high school. In 2010 after graduating from university, the crew got back together, started writing music and performing across provinces.
