Fabulous love, #It’s-the-month-of-love

Gays have their take on Valentine’s Day

It’s the month of love and the spirit of love is upon us once again.

On February 14, Sowetans join the rest of the world in expressing love and affection to those close to their hearts.

Businesses usually make a killing and sales shoot through the roof as chocolates, champagne, and red roses become the order of the day.

Very often when we talk about Valentine’s Day and love, we think men and women kind of love. Even though it is still taboo for many of us, gay and lesbians are here to stay and they have mad love for each other and everyone.

Terence Ugliphiza believes Valentine’s Day should be celebrated.

Terence “Teabae” Ugliphiza, a proud gay man is a big fan of Valentine’s Day and expects to receive some flowers on the day to make it extra special.

“I do celebrate Valentine’s Day because I believe that as lovers we need time to celebrate our love together and more specially to spend time together like it’s the first time we fall in love,” says the fabulous Teabae.

Even though he believes in celebrating Valentine’s Day, he still thinks that love should be celebrated and shared everyday between lovers.

Thabiso “Miss Sasha,” Dube says he sends and receives love everyday but still expects Valentine’s Day to be extra special and his partner should always make sure that he makes him feel loved.

Mpho Buntse thinks Valentine’s Day has been commercialised.

Mpho Buntse has a different take on Valentine’s Day. The LGBTI activist believes the day has been too much commercialised.

“I believe that Valentine’s Day is one of those capitalists and profit oriented platforms. As a gay man, I believe in everyday demonstration of love and affection to my loved one. I don’t need a special day to celebrate love while making retail outlets rich,” says Buntse.
