Soweto Dance Workshop comes to a conclusion

Three week long workshop uplifts community with practical skills and advice

Thabiso Pule with Creative Tree arts movement hosted a dance workshop at the Bapedi Hall since the first week of October.

The three-week long workshop has been open to the community and to aspiring dancers and artists from Meadowlands and surrounding locations.

As a means to revive the spirit of art in the community, Pule has been giving back to the community with his time and skills.

“These workshops aim to expose the professional knowledge and practicality of the craft to those who are not as privileged to attend at a fee and further educate on how to turn it from a mere dream or passion into a professional career and how to earn a living from it.

“This also further encourages aligning the very passion and entrepreneurial skills into one so that the recipients would not add onto the stats of unemployed majority of South Africa.

“Various professionals of the Arts & Culture sector have been invited to facilitate these workshops namely Georgina Thompson, Sello Pesa and Irven Morapedi.

“Of the 3 weeks, each week is dedicated to a different theme ranging from administration to practical

“The second week of the workshop was more practical and facilitated by Sello Pesa, a well-travelled and respected Artistic director of Ntsoana Contemporary Dance Theatre.

“His main focus was based on understanding the essence of your craft and becoming one with your performances, so much so that you are able to master it in different spaces and environments.

“He used various techniques ranging from meditation to miming and also understanding the strength your body’s strengths and weaknesses,” said Pule.
