IWISA NO1 supports inspiring people

Kabelo Mabalane visits the inspiring people.

The IWISA No1 Legends TV show and Kabelo Mabalane visited Moletsane High School in Soweto to honour who they call, “An inspiring active citizen” Elliot Mashinini, referred to as a legend.

Mashinini runs a food garden in the school and uses the garden to inspire and empower his pupils and the community.

Mashinini said, “After noticing that many pupils went to sleep without any food I decided to start the garden to nourish them and teach them farming skills.”

IWISA No1 started honouring inspiring people from the 1980’s and is continuing its initiative to support such people.

The IWISA No1 brand is making a comeback on TV screens this November as it celebrates community self-starters in South African townships through a SABC 1 short clip series that celebrates the great works of strong communities.

IWISA No1 brand is often remembered by its sponsorship of the nationally supported IWISA soccer spectacular between 1986 and 1998. 18 years post sponsorship in football, IWISA No1 has now taken a new approach by entrenching itself into the hearts of SA communities by celebrating legendary individuals who have pioneered life-changing projects eKasi.

IWISA No1 has identified exceptional, ground-breaking community projects deserving recognition and support, and these will be celebrated on the brand new IWISA No1 Legends short clip show on SABC 1.

The IWISA No1 Legends show follows the journey of six extraordinary individuals who have successfully launched empowerment projects in townships with minimal assistance.

These social entrepreneurs who are referred to as legends, through IWISA No1’s intervention, will be given the opportunity to be mentored by a celebrity mentor, Mabalane, and ultimately receive valuable skills, knowledge and resources.

Sine Mkhize of Siyabangena Group said, “The Legends are individuals who have beaten all odds to help their communities and are successfully helping those in need while keeping a positive attitude.”

The senior brand manager for IWISA No1 Peane Maponyane said, “IWISA No1 Legends is about reminding South Africans that legends are not only found on the soccer field or large stages but are also in eKasi, in our homes and within.”

Peane said, “IWISA No1 maize meal is often found and used in strong communities; it, therefore, gives us great joy to have the ability to identify these communities along with their legends in order to accelerate while celebrating what already has been achieved.”

The show is set to hit the TV screens every Thursday, from 10 November at 18:20 on SABC1.
