Upcoming artists given platform to mainstream

Slaghuis expands from rap to poetry and other forms of art.

Slaghuis hosted Cypher Sessions at their studios over the past weekend with showcases ending yesterday, featuring artists from all over Soweto battling it out.

Mc’s rappers and all sorts of talented individuals gathered to share and display their talents and also get constructive criticism in order to grow.

Slaghuis Studios became established to formally provide a platform for young up and coming artist to development their craft and gain access to the mainstream.

The studio usually hosts monthly shows in Diepkloof with the aim of unearthing talent, grooming young people and showcase what the hood has to offer.

The studios are not only about rap but also represent many other cultures include Djing, poetry, beat-boxing, street dance and graffiti.

The Slaghuis Studios are not only a platform but a propeller into main the stream as Pro-kid and other well known arts first made their name there.

“The monthly Cypher Sundays are usually hosted with the aim of firstly providing a platform for upcoming artists but also to get an opportunity to make for themselves if they impress our panel.

“If the panel likes the artists then we would record their performance and post it to our website and on our facebook page,” said Raphael Moez, marketing at the Slaghuis.
