The City of Joburg, Joburg Property Company and the Soweto Theatre brings the Soweto Steal Art Challenge the competition is looking for young designers and artists from Soweto to take part in a challenge to submit designs which will be interpreted into steal art works and sculptures.
- The challenge forms part of the artistic and final touches in the bigger Soweto Theatre Cultural Precinct which is due for completion during 2017 as renovations are currently taking place.
- The precinct will include the Amphitheatre, the Soweto Theatre, Jabulani Mall and all other structures around the area.
- The project is in the first phase where only design ideas are needed weather in the form of sculpture pictures or actual drawings.
- The designs are divided into different categories where the first category will be interpretations of designs into street furniture.
- The second category is a design for two gateway designs which will be featured on entrances around the gateway of the cultural precinct.
- The third category is the creation of designs that will be interpreted into sculptures and the four and final category will be for any other free style design that has not been defined.
