Fundraising to ensure sustainability

The 2nd Classic music concert fundraiser took place in the Diepkloof Community Hall on August 13 and many young musicians came to showcase their skills and talents to their parents and community, like Kamogelo Phaladi who played a solo performance of Bach.

The African Youth Ensemble (AYE) sustains itself by fundraisers.

  • Mpho Moshoeshoe was the MC at the concert, she said, “This is how the AYE has been able to purchase all the things we need.”
  •  Kolwane Mantu aka Bra K studied music in Europe and founded the AYE, he said, “I would love to see the players of AYE get jobs in professional orchestras and working in the industry.”
  • Mantu said, “The music and teaching the kids fulfills me, and the classes helps them stay out of troubles.”
  • Thabiso Boleu of the AYE said, “I wish the class grows and gets sustainability even after Bra K retires.”

Gugulethu Khumalo plays the violin, after her perfomance she said, “I feel very happy because I practiced hard for today and I enjoy playing.” The class teaches how to read and interpret musical notes, Neo Thekiso plays and teaches the violin, he said, “I think the concert has improved from the previous concerts.”
Keabetswe Makhothi is part of the AYE class, she said, “The class helps keep us out of troubles mischief.”
