Memorandum of hope for residents

SANCO led a march to raise drug awareness in the community of Ennerdale.

The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) Greater Johannesburg led a march at the Fine town in Ennerdale.

The purpose was to raise awareness to the South African Police Service in the area about the drug problems the residents of the community are facing.

According to Star Khumalo, the coordinator of zonal Regional Task Team (RTT) leadership in Meadowlands said approximately 600 members attended the event.

“We have a civic movement that is for the communities of Johannesburg,” said Khumalo.

The march started at Maranatha Hall and went all the way to Ennerdale Police Station for the sole purpose to deliver a memorandum that was to be signed by both parties.

The convenor of RTT in Meadowlands Siviwe Mafuna said, “ the community has had enough of the drugs and the drug lords in the area that are destroying our youth and the domino effect it has on our communities.”

The memorandum was handed to the police to be made aware of the challenges the community is facing and that they have taken a stand to get help from the police.

The memorandum was signed and SANCO hopes there will be a change from now on regarding drug abuse in Ennerdale.

“The campaign was very successful, and we hope the impact is able to spread to all the communities we represent throughout Johannesburg,” said Khumalo.
