Diepkloof had a successful anti-crime campaign

Visits to all high crime zones.

Diepkloof SAPS spokesperson Captain Phephi Matlou said, “We monitor crime daily and have noticed hot spots in various zones of Diepkloof.”

Diepkloof SAPS held a special social crime prevention awareness campaign in partnership with other police stations like Kliptown, Meadowlands and Eldorado Park on July 16.

The Community Policing Forum (CPF) and JMPD joined the campaign along with NGO’s like Barona and Lifeline; the community joined the crime prevention awareness campaign.

Matlou said the campaign was an opportunity for the police to talk to the community about domestic violence, assault, drug and alcohol abuse and how to get a protection order.

Matlou said, “The aim of the campaign was to educate and empower the community about their rights, and it was well received.”

Busisiwe Nkosi from the youth desk said, “Our aim is to interact with the youth because we have an idea of how the youth thinks and behaves.”

Setjaba Molatula from the CPF said, “The campaign is to show the community that we are concerned about their safety and that they can approach us for help anytime.

Busi Buthelezi was overseeing the psychosocial support in the campaign and the educating of people about their rights. She supervises the Victim Empowerment Centre (VEC) of the Diepkloof Police Station.

Buthelezi said, “Victims can visit our social workers anytime to receive any help and support.”

Brigadier Jerry Malesela the station commander said, “We want people to always know that they can come to us anytime for help and know that we are present.”

Charmaine Reyneke is the branch commander and the head of the detective’s team; Matlou said, “If any people are not satisfied with any investigations they can enquire from her at the station.”
