Youth Parliament wraps up Youth Month

Young people to discuss matters of national interest for two days in Kliptown.

Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete and National Council of Provinces chairperson Thandi Modise will today join thousands of young people at the National Youth Parliament.
The youth parliament will be held at the Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown.
The two day gathering is expected to provide young people with a platform to voice their opinions on matters of national interest.
They will be joined by other Members of Parliament and the class of 1976.
Mbete said young people must be informed about what happened in 1976 as the country commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Soweto student uprising.
“We will have a sitting with the young people to deepen their own understanding of their country.  They have to take over as the leaders oftomorrow,” said Mbete.
The National Youth Parliament goes to Kliptown which is a birth place of the Freedom Charter which was commemorated a few days ago.
Modise said it was more than fitting to take young people to Kliptown so that they experience first hand what happened in history.
