Restoring dignity back to Youth Day

Diakonia Aids Ministry hope youth will respect June 16.

In memory of the youth of 1976 and all heroes and heroines of the struggle who laid down their lives for freedom, peace and democracy, Diakonia Aids Ministry will commemorate Youth Day celebration.

Festivities will be held on June 16 and will commence at 9am with a march from the Diakonia Aids Ministry to Morris Isaacson High School.

Afterwards the programme for the day will be filled with music, dance, speakers and viewing of a movie on the country’s history.

One of the event organisers and Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee, Kgaogelo Setuke said: “We want youth of today to respect this day and its purpose. “This march will be for the young people and adults and after that we will proceed to the Tsietsi Mashinini Museum to divulge to the children more about our history.”

Setuke said later on a debate will be steered, on how education has improved from the apartheid era to now.

All residents to attend this event are requested to wear their school uniforms.

Refreshments will be sold at the festivities to benefit the team with their fundraising initiative.
