Delicious Festival introduces Chopped SA

Delicious Festival lives up to expectations.

The DSTV Delicious Festival this past weekend at Emmarentia was without a doubt the place to be for music and food lovers.

One of the highlights of the festival was a Food Network Cook Off that brought together two journalists, two DSTV Food Network competition winners and celebrity chefs Jenny Morris from “Jenny cooks the Mediterranean and Siba Mtongana from “Siba’s Kitchen”to compete in a cook-off.

In the next few months the Food Network will be launching the South African version of the extremely popular cooking show Chopped.

To promote Chopped South Africa contestants were given a mystery box of ingredients to use to create a dish within 45 minutes.

The mystery ingredients were revealed moments before the cook-off started.

Contestants were required to use all the ingredients from the mystery basket which included mushrooms, jam and eggs.

The red team, made up of Harshiela Ravji, (DSTV winner), and Independent Newspapers tv writer Debashine Thangevelo, opted to roast their duck with a citrus flavour.

Bianca Pugin and Urban News Editor Mark Scheepers pan fried their duck and added Risotto as a side dish.

After, what contestants describe ‘stressful 45 minutes’, it was up to the judges to decide which team won the cook-off.

Presentation of the dish also played a role in the judging.

After much deliberation between judges it was decided that the red team had won for their roasted duck and citrus touch.
