Soweto Theatre second year celebration

Soweto Theatre celebrates second birthday in style.

The Soweto Theatre hosted its 2nd year birthday celebration in partnership with Jozi Fm over the past weekend.

The theatre had been launched in May 2012 and this was their first celebration and according to Mambila Mageza, it was a great success.

According to Mageza, the event was fun filled and had a relaxed and cultured vibe with top class entertainment throughout the weekend.

On Friday, the artist line up included Dj Clock and Heavy K on decks in the outside area with Jozi Fm Djs conducting the days proceedings.

Mimi Sihla is part of the organizing team and she said the highlight of the event for her was the variety of acts that were in the line up.

“All music and entertainment lovers will have been pleased over the past weekend.

“We had everything from Hip Hop, Kwaito, Jazz, Soul and House, so there was a bit of everything for everyone,” Sihla said.

On Saturday the theme was bringing everything back home, as there was scathamiya (African Traditional Music) for the morning session and artists such as Mgedeza, Tshepo Junior and Dj Ganyani handle the late session.

“Sunday was a bit more free flowing and represented a space were people just shared musical chemistry for me.

“Most of the acts were raw and live so that is where one would see the core of talent hidden in clear sight,” Mageza said.

The closing of the celebration sealed the deal with performances by artists such as Tshepo Tshola and an open mic session.
