World Kidney Day kicks off today at Helen Joseph Hospital

People need to be made aware of Kidney diseases and the factors that contribute to having kidney failure.

According to the International Federation of Kidney Foundations, around 10% of the world’s population is affected by Chronic Kidney Disease

(CKD), The celebration taking place today includes an awareness march for Kidney Disease from Helen Joseph Hospital to the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

The aim of the march is to create greater awareness of a disease that affects all races and ages.

One in five men and one in four women between the ages of 65 and 74 have CKD.

“Create awareness of the dangers of Kidney diseases and factors that contribute to having kidney failure,” said the organisor, Gwendolene Klaaste.
