Joburg Ballet Cuban School has developed into a centre of excellence for preparing dancers for the professional stage. Now children from ages 6 to 10 years can audition for a place in this prestigious institution on 28 January at 4pm at the Joburg Ballet studios in Braamfontein.
Joburg Ballet Cuban School provides a safe and structured environment for children to develop professionally, introducing them to the joy and benefits of classical ballet while exposing them to a potential career in the performing arts. This institution will give these children solid classical ballet training as well as offering them exposure to other careers in the sector such as lighting design, arts management and costume design.
The historic generosity of the Cubans’ willingness to give of their time and knowledge is significant as South Africa and Cuba benefit from a healthy exchange in many industries. The company’s dancers and teachers work with the pupils, teaching new and valuable skills and knowledge. Joburg Ballet Cuban School allows access to training that Cubans receive in Havana and work to secure a continuing path of improvement as Cuban teachers share their knowledge here in South Africa.
Encouraged by Mr. Fidel Castro in collaboration with Madame Alicia Alonso, the National Ballet School of Cuba developed a unique ballet training method that is used at the Joburg Ballet Cuban School. Many Cuban trained students have won international fame, among them Royal Ballet star Carlos Acosta.
As a cultural inter-change and education programme, Joburg Ballet Cuban School aims to develop true integration and inspire the youth of South Africa.
Audition Details:
• Boys aged from 6 years to 10 years and girls aged from 6 years to 9 years are invited to audition for a place in this prestigious school.
• Please note that space is limited.
• No previous ballet training or experience is required.
Audition date: 28 January 2014 @ 4pm at the Joburg Ballet studios, Hoofd Street, Braamfontein
