Youth start new year with treat for elderly

Youth from Fountain of Praise and Evangelistic Outreach Ministries got together to give the elderly a massage, blankets and lunch.

Elderly residents were on Friday treated to a day of relaxation.

Youth from Fountain of Praise and Evangelistic Outreach Ministries got together to give the elderly a massage, blankets and lunch.

“We want to serve the elderly of our community because nobody shows them respect or helps them carry their parcels anymore,” Jonathan Stainbank said.

May Kroats from Kopanya Women’s Group encouraged youth to appreciate their parents while they are still alive.

She said that the elderly are neglected by youth and desires for youth from Eldorado Park to follow in the footsteps of the youth of the two churches.

Gina Crawford (78) said the attention meant a lot to her.

“I never get this treatment, so I’m very grateful to the youth,” said Crawford who especially enjoyed the foot massage.

This is the first of hopefully many such treatments for the elderly and Pastor Andries urges youth and churches to get together and treat the elderly.

“We are one community, if we do this we can strengthen it,” Hermans said.

He commended the youth for their efforts and said that it is a blessing that the elderly will take back home with them.

The youth came together on behalf of the entire community setting an example of how the mothers of Eldorado Park should be treated.
