Canoeists battle out at paddling
The 20km long race catered for for the stronger, fitter and more energetic competitors.

Germiston canoeists headed to Florida Lake Canoe Club for a flat water marathon session on August 19.
The session attracted 90 participants and included a 6km race for “guppies” (U8 to U12), a short 10km course for the less fit and newer paddlers and a 20km long race for the stronger, fitter and more energetic competitors.

Germiston’s Victoria Lake Canoe Club was well represented at the session.
Phineas Zulu partnered with VLC member Theo Dreyer who recently returned from international competitions.

They finished the 20km main race in a time of one hour 32 minutes and in eighth overall position.
VLC members Rendani Ndou and Nathi Ndlovu finished the short 10km race in second place in the U-14 category.
Prince Mhako with Tlhalefo Nhlapo were second in the U16 group.

Awesome Mhako and Bokamoso Nhlapo also finished the race in fifth place in the U14 group, in a time of one hour six minutes, seventh in the double boat (K2) overall, while Simelokuhle Moyeni and Ntando Lungelo Ndlovu were the fourth u-16 finisher in the short race in a time of one hour and 12 minutes and 10th in crossing the finish line in the short course race.
