WATCH: ‘Steven Pienaar and the Westbury community are against violence’

For the love of the game.

A proud Steven Pienaar fan embraces the Bill Jardine Stadium with his presence at the Steven Pienaar Community Cup finals. Ivan Geldart (55) from Westbury has been at the finals of the tournament for the last two years with messages for the community painted on his stomach.

“I’ve been a supporter for Moroka Swallows for the last twenty-five years. This is who I am, I’m painted with all of my messages, I promote positive messages.

“Steven Pienaar is from Westbury and he is like a son to me because I’m always supporting him, I’ve been with him for years even when he was playing for Bafana Bafana and whatever team he played for I always supported him. I do this just to show him how thankful I am to him, thanking him for what he has been doing in our community.”

Last year at the Oval Stadium in Westbury Geldart had the message: ‘Steven Pienaar is against women and child abuse’ painted on his stomach.

“This year, I decided to do something about the shooting that recently started in Westbury again” Geldart had ‘Steven and the community are against violence in Westbury’, painted on his stomach. Geldart added that since Pienaar always has the tournament in youth month he believes that Pienaar’s heart is here for the youth.

“I think he uplifts them with these tournaments and he takes them off from the streets. From myself, I’d like to say to the youth that they must participate in sports and that they must stay away from drug and alcohol abuse.

“Our community is really suffering because of the drugs and alcohol and parents are crying because of what is happening with our youth. Steven isn’t a violent person and he doesn’t want our children to fill up the prisons,” he said.

The supporter said that he has discussions with Pienaar before he paints the messages on his stomach.

“We are currently starting an athletic team in Westbury and our focus is on the beginners, it’s not a marathon team. We going to go to all the schools because many children only do sports when its sports day at school and after that they do not participate in anything. We also looking to bring in different sporting codes,” explained Geldart.
