U17 Jowest trials done and dusted

The Jowest Local Football Association (LFA) Super League.

The Jowest Local Football Association (LFA) super league kicked off this past weekend with the junior league scheduled to start in the next week.

According to Chairman of the LFA, Reidwan Sallie, this year the association has 105 teams registered in their junior league.

“We don’t have enough facilities but we’ll see how we manage,” said the chairman. On February 3, the LFA had U17 trials for the up and coming Future Champions Cup.

“We going to have a selected Jowest LFA team that will go and represent Jowest at the Future Champs trials next week and out of that competition they will be select a team for the Gauteng team that will play at the Future Champs Competition,” explained Sallie at the time of the interview.

According to the chairman, all the players that attended the trials were from the surrounding community and they all belong to clubs in the Jowest League.

“We got a turnout of 44 players and we have to pick 15 players from the group. The trials involved coaches from the league teams who monitored players performances on the day. We have dedicated coaches, and LFA executive members to assist and help with the selection of players,” Sallie added.

The 15 players who were selected from the group had their second trials on February 17, in Rivonia Park where 11 different LFA’s played against each other.

At the time of the interview, Sallie mentioned that out of the Rivonia park games, 20 of the best players will be selected to represent Gauteng and they will go through to the Gauteng Future Champs Cup.

Sallie explained: “It’s a good opportunity for the U17’s, and at the Future Champs Competition, that’s where the national coaches and scouts are.

“They look for the best players to play for their teams. The players are selected individually that they will be representing the South African Football Association from the Gauteng region.”

Future Champions is a project of inspiration and development that has been staged in countries across the globe. The aim of the initiative is to utilise the power and popularity of football as a catalyst for growth.
