WATCH: Scoring a goal for our youth
Their in-school programmes touch the lives of over 2000 pupils in Eldorado Park.
In 2006, a non-profit organisation (NPO) was formed that focused purely on the tricks and trade of soccer, named The Goal.
The NPO was founded by Hubert Tiger and they are supported by FIFA’s Football for Hope and the 2010 FIFA Legacy Trust in partnership with the City of Johannesburg.
After six years of just soccer, the Goal formed a team of mentors that decided that soccer was not enough and recognised the need for more to be done to uplift the lives of the youth in our community.
In 2012 they started helping students between the ages of six and 16 with an after- and in-school programmes.
The Goal focuses on transforming the lives of the children and youth by providing safe spaces and educational programmes which promote character development, inspire reading and encourage healthy lifestyles through football.
The lead programme is their after-school programme in Eldorado Park, which they provide from the Eldorado Park Stadium in Extension Nine.
The participants meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the Goal Legacy Park to participate in small sided football games, weekly character lessons and literacy projects.
Their in-school programmes touch the lives of over 2000 pupils in Eldorado Park and benefit four primary schools and one high school.
There are 11 pillars of character that the Goal aims to implement in the lives of these pupils such as trustworthiness, caring, diligence, citizenship, hope, responsibility, wisdom, fairness, self-control, perseverance and most importantly, respect for themselves and those around them.
The Goal lives according to the Three-Ps which are; passion, persuasion and pulsation. Where their passion is football, their persuasion is literacy and their pulsation is character education.
