Orlando: Come run for a good cause

The Orlando Athletics Club invites the community to this year’s race against cancer.

Entries for the Orlando Race Against Cancer are now open. Athletes and all those who have a thing for running and living a healthy lifestyle are invited to take part.

Hosted by the Orlando Athletics Club, the marathon is aimed at raising funds and awareness about cancer.

It will take place on June 25 starting and ending at the Orlando Communal Hall. The marathon has a distance of 5 and 10 KM and includes a run and walk.

Race organiser Sibongile Maruta said all proceeds from the event will be donated to the youth and underprivileged runners programmes in an effort to help children affected by cancer.

“Registration tables open at 5:30. Run/Walk for Life, a highly professional and organised club will be managing and marshalling the route on the day.

“Our added medical support from Prince Med on the day ensures we cater sufficiently for new moms and dads who wish to bring young children in prams,” said Maruta.

The event is organised to cater for the whole family with a variety of activities planned after the race. Food stands and other jumping castles will be available to make the day a memorable one for the little ones.

Marita said, “The Health Department will be with us the entire day to offer cancer testing from their trained nurses at their fully equipped testing station.

“Our very generous sponsors have donated excellent prizes for the first few runners in, as well as many prizes which will be given as spot prizes to those with chosen race numbers. As well as prizes for the best dressed.”
