Wheelchair Tennis South Africa (WTSA) has confirmed that the eighth International Tennis Federation (ITF) Johan Cruyff Africa Junior Camp is all set to continue the development of the future stars.
The junior event will be staged at the home of tennis, Arthur Ashe Tennis Centre in Jabavu from September 28 to 30. The camp will see over 70 junior wheelchair tennis stars invade Jabavu this week from all over the continent to receive high-quality skills development and exposure on the international court.
The three-day junior event has attracted players from Tanzania and Ghana. The ITF sanctioned camp serves as a catalyst to develop future stars on the continent and will be led by the national coach, Khotso Matshego along with other coaches from South Africa, Ghana, and Tanzania who will accompany their charges to this spectacle.
The camp is designed to improve the level of play of the participants and give a glimpse into the future prospects of wheelchair tennis in Africa. The coaching camp will focus primarily on tactics and advanced mobility drills, and the tournament will determine which nation and which junior is earmarked as Africa’s next top talent. Both the camp and tournament will run concurrently with a coaches’ conference where coaches can exchange ideas and gain knowledge.

“The Johan Cruyff Africa Junior Camps have been instrumental in providing opportunities for top junior players to be identified. “It was through this initiative that today’s top ranked aces Lucas Sithole, Kgothatso Montjane and Evans Maripa were identified and developed,” said Losch.
