The countdown to the Orlando Half Marathon has begun

1100 runners have registered already.

Entries for the 5th Annual Orlando Half Marathon have reached the 1100 mark. The second biggest local race after the Soweto Marathon is happening on December 13.

Starting at the Orlando East Rugby Fields and hosted by the Orlando Athletics Club, it is expected to be the biggest half marathon of the year.

The theme for this year’s race is, “Lets Colour.”

According to the organisers the theme is all about celebrating the different colours that will bring life to the streets of Orlando on race day.

The t-shirts which will be given to the runners will be in different colours and this is done to complement the theme.

Organisers have announced that they have reached the target for the number of free t-shirts to be given to runners.

This is not to discourage runners from entering the race as entries are still open. They will be open until the day of the race. Parents are still encouraged to register their children for the junior dash which allows children below the age of eight to participate.

The 21 KM race will start at 6am, the 10 KM race at 6:15am and the 5KM race will start at 6:30am.  The little ones will start their junior dash at 10:00am. To participate in the junior dash and the 5KM race one does not need a licence.

Everyone is welcome to participate regardless of whether they are professional runners or not.

Entry forms are still available at the Orlando Communal Hall and online at www.entrytime.com.  For more information people can contact Phiwe Mokoena on 063 372 4472 or Buyisiwe Mazibuko on 073 438 8942.
