Black Label Cup to take centre stage

The fifth edition of the Carling Black Label Cup between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will take place on July 25.

The two Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will battle each other again when the Carling Black Label Cup takes centre stage.

This much anticipated soccer competition is set to take place on July 25 at the imposing FNB Stadium.

The tournament will be playing for the fifth year and it gives fans a chance to select their starting line-ups, make substitutions through their cell phones and gives two supporters an opportunity to be coaches on match day.

As this year marks the fifth year of the competition, it has since grown to become one of the most vital events on the football calendar.

Fans still recall on the past four editions of the most popular derby in the country.

The inaugural edition in 2011 was won by Pirates 4-3 on penalty shootouts.

The mighty Buccaneers went on to win it again in 2012 on penalties after both teams played to a 1-all draw, courtesy of Abia Nale and Benny McCarthy.

With Orlando Pirates claiming two consecutive titles, Chiefs were determined to get one past their rivals and it was through a well struck Lehlohonolo Majoro’s goal in the second half that the Glamour Boys claimed the first title in 2013.

The Buccaneers claimed their third title last year after a 6-5 victory on penalties again.

This season’s PSL and MTN-8 champions, Chiefs will be looking forward to clinch this campaign while Pirates will be chasing the title for the fourth time.
