Benny’s Sports Academy through to DNC national finals

Benny’s Sports Academy coach, Mbishi Mokwena hopes for best results in the Danone Nations Cup national finals scheduled for June.

Benny’s Sports Development Academy has qualified for the Danone Nations Cup national finals after beating Mahupje Primary School by a 1-0 nail biting score in the provincial finals.

The team will be taking part in the nationals for the first time after playing in this exciting U12 tourney for several years.

Its coach, Mbishi Mokwena said they came into the tournament with a new team comprising players that started at the school this year.

He only started coaching at the school this year and is excited to have managed to reach this level of the tournament.

“The school management did not expect the team to win and viewed this year as a learning experience but deep in my heart I knew I would lead the boys to victory,” said Mokwena.

Before beating Mahupje, Academy won its first three matches on penalties and according to Mokwena, they did not manage to score enough goals and this is an area he will be working on leading up to the national finals.

“We don’t know what to expect but we do know that every team will be doing their best to win the trip to Morocco to compete in the world finals in October,” he said.

This tournament is not only about winning but it is about enjoying the game and sharing experience with other countries from different parts of the world.

National champions will represent South Africa at the International Danone Nations Cup set to take place in October in Morocco.

Former Real Madrid and France legend, Zinedine Zidane is the tournament ambassador.
