Soweto schools benefit from Discovery handover

Primary schools receive brand new soccer kits from Discovery.

Discovery, in partnership with the Dreamfields project continued with their efforts of making a meaningful contribution to a healthy and active lifestyle through the handing over of soccer kits to six primary schools from Soweto.

This event took place at Zodiac Primary School in Lenasia.

The partnership dates back to 2013 and has seen a total of 13 schools benefiting in the form of soccer kits and training equipment.

This year’s edition of the handover took a different direction with the event being graced by Supersport United player, Daine Klate.

He said what Discovery has done for the youngsters will leave a lasting memory and it is every child’s wish to play football in a full soccer kit.

He said it improves their morale and encourages them to take the sport seriously.

“I hope this will assist in unearthing the next stars and contribute to the development of football in our country,” said Klate.

Discovery recently hosted a successful Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge where a total of 52 teams from Soweto came together for the 12th edition of the tournament during the festive season.

The event drew crowds from all corners of Soweto to show the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.

“Through community involvement, Discovery has the opportunity to promote the key values of a healthy living through helping to improve overall physical activity levels in the country and youth soccer development,” said head of sponsorships and experiential marketing at Discovery, Lona Maclean.
