Soweto Marathon extends registration date

Less than five weeks remaining until the Soweto Marathon begins and runners can still register their names before October 12.

The Soweto Marathon registration has been extended to October 12 and runners who still want to participate can register their names.

According to race director, Banele Sindani they felt that it was important to make sure all athletes had an opportunity to enter the “People’s Race” and as such they carefully monitored online and manual registrations during the last week of September, and decided to extend the registration date.

The marathon consists of three races which are the 10km, 21km and 42km and runners who have already registered are reminded to collect their race packs between now and November 1 at the Constitutional Hill in Johannesburg.

Athletes should note that they can still register in-store at the Nike Stores at Sandton City and The Zone in Rosebank, and at the Orlando Community Centre, Run-aWay Store in Pretoria and the sweat shops in both Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Alternatively runners can register via www.sowetomarathon.com.

The race will start and end at Nasrec Expo Centre.

Sindani said the race is about bringing people together and reminding them how far they have come as a nation.

He said the routes were selected in order for runners to be physically challenged.

A total of 21 000 runners are expected to take part in this event.
