Registration still open for the Soweto Marathon

Soweto Marathon runners are urged to register on time to secure a spot in the race.

The Soweto Marathon is approaching and runners can still register for the “People’s Race” which is scheduled for November 2.

Runners have three options to register for, which are the 10km, 21.1km or the 42.2km races.

The routes have been unveiled and deadline for registration is October 1.

Organisers have confirmed that spots for each category are filling up quickly and that runners must register on time to secure their spot in this race.

The race will start and end at Nasrec Expo Centre.

Soweto Marathon Trust chief executive officer, Banele Sindani said the race is about bringing people together and reminding them how far they have come as a nation.

He said the routes were selected in order for runners to be physically challenged.

A total of 21 000 runners are expected to take part in this event.

Spectators and support staff on duty are advised to arrive early at the Expo Centre on the day of the event as the first event starts at 6am.

Registration for one of the three categories can be done on www.sowetomarathon.com or at Nike Stores at The Zone, Rosebank and Sandton City.

They can register at Orlando Community Centre as well, Run-aWay Store in Pretoria and The Sweat Shops in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Registration is R100 for the 10km race in the open category and R75 for students.

The 21.1km race fee is R130 for open and R90 for students and in the 42.2km race the fee is R170 and R125 in both categories respectively.
