Varsity Football second round starts on a high

With the Vasity Cup games reaching boiling point and UP-Tuks at the top of the log and UJ just behind them, their contest in the third round is not to be missed.

The second round of Varsity Football took place last week with teams fighting for a win after drawing in their first round games.

All four second round games resulted with defending champions, UP-Tuks being the only team to win away from home, continuing their perfect start to the season.

University of Western Cape lost against North West University but created at least three clear-cut scoring opportunities during their narrow 1-0 loss.

The team may have picked up only one point from their first two outings in the Varsity Football campaign, but coach Aboobakar Williams is confident his team will turn the situation in their next game.

UP-Tuks went a goal down in another game against UCT but retained their composure to secure victory and their spot at the top of the standings.

Its coach, Evangelos Vellios said that his team’s fighting spirit was the key to their comeback.

University of Johannesburg’s massive 3-0 win against last year’s runners up, Madibaz in last week’s game surprised many.

With UP-Tuks at the top of the log and UJ just behind them, their contest in the next round is a match that is not to be missed.
