Indoor soccer league ready to start

Local teams are urged to register for the Soweto Futsal League with only 12 players per team.

The annual Soweto Futsal League is approaching and participating teams are urged to register their teams as soon as possible.

This league will be played at Orlando Communal Hall and at Meadowlands every week.

A total of 10 teams are expected to play in the league and each team should register only 12 players.

Registration for each player is R30.

Overall winners of the league will represent Soweto at regional level, then go on to provincial finals before reaching the national finals.

Winners of the national finals will be part of the Futsal national team which will play against other countries. This league is an indoor game and was formed in 2009.

It was formed by the Soweto Indoor Football Association under the auspice of the South African Football Association.

One of the organisers, Teboho Mofolo said this league was formed to improve the standard of football in the townships and to expose players to talent scouts. He said the league has been a success and hopes that this time around it will be much more entertaining and thrilling.

“We have gained a lot of improvement and exposure since the tournament’s inception and this shows that we are capable of developing football from grassroots and keep on uplifting Soweto through this sport,” said Mofolo.
