Sports day for pupils
The Montessori school held their annually sports day at the Bill Jardine Stadium.
Last Saturday, Clever Kids Montessori held their sports day at the Bill Jardine Stadium.
Clever Kids Montessori is a new school that focuses on the development of children with new and creative teaching methods.
“We currently have 20 pupils aged two to five years and are working hard to expand our little school,” said Ethel Tennant
Research has shown that the first six years of a child’s life are the most critical in terms of psycho-social learning and development. The curriculum is rooted in the child’s innate desire to learn, grow and acquire new skills.
“By the age of five, children are better at basic word recognition and mathematics and are more likely to play cooperatively with other children,” said Tennant
Though instruction is largely on a one-on-one basis, children also work in collaborative groups to experience the value of teamwork and shared ideas. Learners are vertically grouped into three-year-cycle age-groups up until the age of six.
“We are a new Montessori school established in August 2013 in Florida (home based), we are the first of its kind in the coloured community in 30 years. I have included our website link for you to view the method of education we use to teach. https://cleverkidsmontessori..webs.com,” said Tennant.
Maths is regarded as a vital component of the Montessori curriculum and children are able to grasp complicated concepts far earlier than their peers in mainstream educational systems.
There is also a strong emphasis on teaching children how to execute real world activities such as fastening and unfastening clothes, folding, dusting, washing and tidying up.
“Academically, Montessori learners end up ahead of children from non-Montessori educational institutions,” said Tennant
