KFC hosts a succesful cricket festival

Cricket Union hosts Mini-Cricket festival.

Over 600 children (boys and girls) between the ages of three and 13 got active on the cricket field when the Cricket Union hosted their Mini-Cricket festival.

The children who participated in the festival came in school teams with eight players per team and played two games each in this exciting event.

It was organised by KFC in partnership with Cricket South Africa (CSA) in 2010 with the aim of reaching as many children as possible and to promote an active and balanced lifestyle.

The event grows bigger and better every year and has now over 100 000 children taking part. This year the programme’s focus is on the Mini-Cricket ambassador search and for children already in the programme to play more frequently.

Youth Cricket Manager at CSA, Niels Momberg said this season they will ensure that they maintain and improve the quality of cricket played by the children and will continue to encourage enrolment.

Sponsorships Manager, Lauren Turnbull said the best way to get a message to children is through others and with this in mind they have introduced an ambassador search this year.

At each festival they set up an audition area to select ambassadors who will be used to promote cricket message which is to encourage children to get active and get into KFC Mini-Cricket. Professional cricket player, AB De Villiers has been an ambassador of this programme since 2010 and is an inspiration to the youngsters involved.
