The world’s best school is an initiative by BVU Ventures done by T4 Education. It is a global movement aimed at building civil society, meaning that it wants the public and private sector to work together and engage each other for the betterment of the people.

Spark Soweto Principal, Nthambeleni Nyambeni said with the initiative, scholars will realise that anything is possible as the school has managed to make it to the top ten in a global competition where thousands of schools had entered.

“With this exposure the public will see that the school is doing something big even though it is based in a small marginalised township. I feel very proud, very honoured and humbled.

“I think we cannot deny the power that parents and scholars have in this school, and the greatness of this positive competition. I’d really like to thank T4 Education for allowing us this honour to be amongst the top ten,” said Nyambeni.

The school held a march to Protea Glen Mall in order to celebrate the wonderful achievement with the community.

“This is a huge transformation opportunity for the community. I think Soweto is getting out there to the world but also being recognised internationally for world best school with our education system feels amazing.

“There is some excellence that we will learn and I hope that we can share it with the community and the schools around.

“There is a lot of change we can make when we work together,” said Spark Soweto Achievement Manager, Gundo Mmbi.

The school aims to continue prioritising community engagement which involves interacting with and surveying the community to understand their educational and social needs as well as preserving the core values of Ubuntu.

“I’m very grateful to see such developments taking place in the ward that I’m presiding over considering that this is the time when we really need such private investments. What excites me the most is that our children will no longer travel in order to access better education facilities,” said Counsellor Phelelani Sindani.
