After multiple eye tests were conducted by the Opti Eye Wear between the four schools that were chosen, last week Friday was the last day of donating spectacles to matriculants.

The four schools are Moletsane High School, Madibane High School, Fidelitas Comprehensive School well as Pumla School for learners with special educational needs.

These donations were specially made for matriculants who suffered from eye sight issues and could not afford the expense of visiting an optometrist and pay for the glasses.

Keamohetse Mphuthi, a Grade 12 learner from Moletsane High School said, “It helped me a lot because since from January I’ve been struggling with eye sight and have not received help.

“They also helped us a lot since we come from different households and not all of us can afford spectacles or even an eye test consultancy.”

This was more than just the donation of spectacles but it was about meeting the black child half way and pushing them closer to their dreams because without a clear vision plus a disadvantaged back ground it becomes impossible to reach ones dreams.

“They have helped us a lot because we are in this area that is disadvantaged and lot of our learners can’t afford to see an eye doctor.

“These learners will be able to apprehend what’s written on the exam sheets and be able to write well,” said Ma’am Maria Ramela from Moletsane High School.

Principal Meoketse Makhothi from Fidelitas Comprehensive School said, “We hope and wish that it will contribute much to our pass rate as leaners will no longer blame their eye sight but will work extra hard to pass their matric. Because now they have glasses and we expect them to perform better.”

“The donation of spectacles has helped a lot because I almost lost my eye sight on my left eye. They will help me to be able to read and write my papers with more confidence since I was starting to even lose hope.

Remember, if a learner is unable to see they can actually fail because they can’t comprehend what is written on the question paper due to optical inefficiency. This is another way of eliminating one of the factors that inhibit learners from doing well on their final year exams.

Opti Eye Wear aim to reach out to even more schools in the year 2023.
